Early March, Charm posted this picture and asked for suggestions on this corner. We had the biggest response in our short charming history with over 150 comments and suggestions. People wanted to see anything from a park, to a restaurant , to a gas station put into that spot. Various people committed to helping clean up the space, but the owner had already scheduled a cleanup and the graffiti was removed promptly. We even worked with the Moveable Feast folks to propose to the owner the idea of making it a “food truck pod.”
We spoke with the owner and he was open to that idea, but is already working on getting the space up and running again as a Shell station with a convenience store. The owner is a Willow Glen resident and has done a lot of development in the neighborhood. He values Willow Glen and the look of the area. He has an application for permits in now and hopes to have construction done within a year with 4-5 gas pumps. The sign on the corner will state Willow Glen as a way to welcome people to the neighborhood.
The owner hopes to have it looking ‘as good as a gas station can’ very soon and will be changing the awnings to face Curtner for ease of access. Stay tuned, more to come.
